lily dear London,
I have your letter and this is only a "brief
line of acknowledgement.
The "People of the Abyss", as you know, has
"been published, and copies of it will have reached you before
this letter, I think there is nothing you will object'to
in the alterations, or elisions, which I have cade; in fact, I
do not think you will noticĀ© them. The book is getting a lot
of notoriety, sons of it favourable, and some otherwise, but in
what is generally acknowledged to be the worst publishing season
that we have had in England for many years, I have great hopes
of its being a big success. It promises that way at the start.
The "Xcnpton wace Letters" has dragged very
slowly at first, but is showing more activity during this last
woek or two, and I think the outlook for it also is fairly
promising*
I am asking our Publicity Department to ssnd
you some reviews which you may not have coon.
Yours very s Sneer elyy
